Importing only specific fields

Is it possible to specify which fields to import into a library when creating a new entry? For example, if importing from one of the online databases, could one import author, year, journal, and title, but not DOI or other notes?

Hello Jack,

Thank you for reaching out. Currently, there is no direct way to select which fields to keep and which to remove when importing a library. However, there are a few workaround methods that you can use. One way is to:

  1. Create a new library
  2. Import your entries there
  3. Open the new Automatic Field Editor and clear all fields you don’t want
  4. Then use the new Drag & Drop functionality to drag the imported entries from the library you’ve just created to your main library.

Thank you for your reply, and for the advice. I understand.

Following your suggestion, I have had a look at the option to ‘Manage field names & content’, which I have not seen or used before now. (I agree that the new name is clearer.) In the future, it will be useful for positions like this, and I shall certainly use it.

(Having just received the notification when I opened the programme, I am about to update to version 5.7.)
