In my literature study workflow I often highlight key sentences, which are either very important, or they need some further work. It would help me a lot to find a right article or book to quickly glimpse over such a list. These “text markups” could be listed in JabRef similar to the pop-up annotations. Based on my limited understanding these are part of the pdf standard as well.

Well, then I have good news for you, this is already possible in version 5.0
Attach the pdf with markings/comments to an entry and in the entry editor, you see the tab “File annotations (or PDF annoations)” which will list those annotations.

Thanks! This was exactly, what I was looking for! I’ve missed this in the new version (I’ve just started using it), because to me the pop-up comments and the highlights belong together, and I expected to see both at the same time on the same tab.
