LOC, MARC, MODS connection

I see that JabRef has all kinds of interfaces to online reference databases, but I see no integration with the Library of Congress (LOC). I would love to see an interface or import function that can connect to an LOC record and download either the MARC record or the MODS record based on the LOC permalink of the work (e.g., https://lccn.loc.gov/2010045158)

thx - Bill

Implementation note: the metadata can be received in MODS or MARCXML format by appending the format to the url, e.g. https://lccn.loc.gov/2010045158/mods or https://lccn.loc.gov/2010045158/marcxml. The mods format seems to be easier to handle and is described here http://www.loc.gov/standards/mods/.

Hi,

JabRef aready supports the import of the MODS xml format. While we don’t have a direct online interface for it, you can download the mods file and import it in JabRef.

Ooo - thanks, guys - good to know. (And thanks for the quick responses, too!)

The newest development version now supports the LCCN at the bottom of the “New entry” dialog.
