No popup opening when using JabRef extension "No such native application org.jabref.jabref"

I installed Jabref desktop from .rpm file on Fedora linux 44 with KDE plasma, and Jabref extension on firefox.
When I press the jabref logo on any site to import the data nothing happens.

firefox is installed from fedora linux repo, I tried also the steps described when it is installed from flatpak but it didn’t help.

I suspect you have to follow the steps outlined under “manual installation”: Browser Extension | JabRef

The browserextension works for me on the latest development version of JabRef installed by rpm, after following the manual installation steps.

Yep, although I don’t understand why this is burried at the bottom of the page, and on the top it is written that everything should work out of the box.

Thank you.

I had the same thought when I looked at the docs and rewrote it a bunch. Hope you like the new version: Browser Extension | JabRef

If you’re seeing the same error on Fedora, check that the JabRef native messaging host JSON manifest is registered in Firefox’s native-messaging-hosts directory, for example, ~/.mozilla/native-messaging-hosts/. Make sure the manifest’s path points to the native host executable. If the manifest is missing, follow the updated manual installation instructions.
