I have a very big bib file written in traditional BibTeX format. Can Jabref convert year and month fields into date field in BibLaTeX? I would like to convert all the entries once (preferrably) automatically.

yes JabRef has a Cleanup operation “Convert to biblatex” which copies/moves the year and month field to date.
However, JabRef also treats these fields as alias fields according to the biblatex spec, so formatter or preview styles that use the date field will also work with the year/month
