Group colour (icon), how is it working?

Maybe, someone updates https://github.com/JabRef/user-documentation/blob/master/en/finding-sorting-and-cleaning-entries/groups.md#groups-structure-creating-and-removing-groups - I hope, this is easy with the pen at the upper right corner…

All of the variations in the name for Chart PPF don’t work either.

JabRef uses an external library which uses an older version (v1.7.22 of Material Design Icons)

Here is a list of Icons that should be usable in JabRef:

I have tested this. The red dot shows the icon If have chosen. The second screenshot shows the group enzymes to which the icon account has been assigned. I does not work, even after reloading jabref.

There is apparently a bug which got introduced which limits the icons.
A fix is in progress:

The current supported list is in this file, on line 144: https://github.com/JabRef/jabref/blob/master/src/main/java/org/jabref/gui/icon/IconTheme.java

Unfortunately I find it is not varied enough to be useful for groups.

@Eve as I wrote above, we fixed the issue that only the JabRefIcons could be used. Try the latest developmentt version,
https://builds.jabref.org/master/
In the latest development version, you should be able to use the following icons:

I have Jabref 5.1. LANGUAGE_C and LANGUAGE_CPP are not working. They show nothing. Not even default arrow shows.

Also, if I press ‘cancel’ button in ‘Edit Group…’ popup, all my group entries are removed!

They are a bit buggy. I don’t know why, but some of them don’t work.
LANGUAGE_HTML5 works fine for example.

@Siedlerchr I am JabRef 5.1 user. Thanks to the discussions in this topic, and I can successfully change the group icon and group color now.

This feature works well in most cases. But I find that when I am working on those groups that collected by “free search expression”, the changes of group icon and color just work temporarily. When I reopen the bib file, the icon and color of “free search expression” groups will restore default (a gray triangle).

@RYoshioka Thanks for the observation. Can you reproduce this always with a free search expression and a (specific) icon which works in other casese? Then please open a bug report at our issue tracker https://github.com/jabref

This happens to me as well!

I believe this is currently being tracked in

Just a quick update for all following this thread. We switchted to a new icon library which now supports much more icons.
Example screenshots shows robot and drone icon

The complete list of icons can be found here in the classes MaterialDesignA–Z

Next step would be to integrate an icon picker dialog

Update:

The latest development version (JabRef 5.4…) index - powered by h5ai v0.29.0 (https://larsjung.de/h5ai/) now provides a searchable icon picker
