How do I create a bibliography in LibreOffice?

I can create citation entries in LibreOffice. But haven’t found out how to insert the Bibliography itself. Have tried the online documentation, videos and fiddled with the user interface with no luck.

There is a lot of information on using MS Word and Tex…

Hi,

just follow the steps here OpenOffice/LibreOffice integration - JabRef
And then on the arrow button you can (re)create the bibliography

There is also a switch under settings:

I’ve read this page a number of times - and must be missing something.

I can see how to insert citations, and how to refresh a bibliography but I can’t see how I select where in the document the bibliography will appear?

My connection from jabRef to LibreOffice is working fine.

Okay, this is odd And definitely a bug! They should appear automatically.
I found out it only works when I have a reference inserted at the start of the document.
Can you look at the Error/Event log?

I am using LO 7.4.2

I’m on LO 6.4.7.2. Updated to latest stable on Ubuntu 20.04.

NOTE: I cleared the log after copying the below. Pressing the “refresh” button after this makes my document display “jerk”, but no new error message appears

Something weird here. I installed Libreoffice when I installed this release (20.04). I have Writer, Calc, Draw and Impress installed.

I updated this morning and only linux firmware updated. But:

Upgraded to latest development release under Windows. Now the behaviour is as you report: When a reference is entered and the “refresh” button is clicked then the Bibiolography is generated.

Had to fiddle for a while before it came right. So had filed a bug report based on stable version, and initial testing of the development version.

I need this to work under Ubuntu, and will not be upgrading to an unstable OS version. Please help.

Thanks, we will look into this! It has nothing to do with the OS, it’s probably a JabRef problem.

I’ve gone back to Ubuntu and now creating a bibliography works with JabRef 5.5 (and LibreOffice is now 6.4.7.2). When I used a blank document to test the connection to JabRef, the bibliography was generated right under the first reference.

I’ve also managed to get the bibliography to work with my production database. The bibliography still updates having moved it to the end of the (existing) document.

Thanks for the update! I really wonder if it’s a problem of LO which behaves differently on other platforms.

I can create a bibliography when i open a new Libre Office word document on

JabRef 5.6–2022-03-10–749b6b2
Windows 10 10.0 amd64
Java 17.0.2
JavaFX 17.0.2-ea+3

but when i delete this bibliography i am not sure what i have to do to create a new bibliography again. I have failed to create a new one.
