Why journal abbreviation does not kick in?

Hello,
I have an entry with the field:

Other fields > title abbreviation: World J Virol
Source: World J Virol. 2016 Nov 12;5(4):144-154. doi: 10.5501/wjv.v5.i4.144.

I set the style file to have abbreviated journals but the reference looks like this:

223. Kevin J. Zwezdaryk; Joseph A. Combs; Cindy A. Morris; Deborah E. Sullivan. Regulation of Wnt/β-catenin signaling by herpesviruses. World journal of virology 2016, 5, 144-154.

Why the short journal did not kick in?
The Required field > journal: World journal of virology and the icon for switching between long and short form does nothing. Is there a database inside Jabref with the abbreviations? how are abbreviations managed?

I believe this journal is not currently included in the JabRef’s list of journals.

hello,
I have updated the journal_abbreviations_acs.csv file on GitHub (proposed) and used this file on my machine because it has an extensive list of journals. Alas, the journals are still in full length. and again there is no difference when clicking the switch button. When I open again the Option>journal abbreviations, the journal_abbreviations_acs.csv is in the drop down list but the built-in list is selected by default. even if I re-select the csv file and save, the built in re-inserts itself in. how do I select the csv one and for all? Thanks

PS: looks like it is working now.

I have tested it and it works for me with JabRef 5.3–2021-03-01–cfb504c
And thank you for completing the list of abbreviations on GitHub!

I have JabRef 5.2 and it works for some but not others:

223. Zwezdaryk, K. J.; Combs, J. A.; Morris, C. A.; Sullivan, D. E. Regulation of Wnt/β-catenin signaling by herpesviruses. *World J. Virol.* **2016** *, 5,* 144-154.

is OK, but I also updated

9. Bedri, S.; Sultan, A. A.; Alkhalaf, M.; Al Moustafa, A.-E.; Vranic, S. Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) status in colorectal cancer: a mini review. Human vaccines & immunotherapeutics 2019, 15, 603-610.

that instead did not work, and some already there:

27. Chen, H.-P.; Jiang, J.-K.; Lai, P.-Y.; Teo, W.-H.; Yang, C.-Y.; Chou, T.-Y.; Lin, C.-H.; Chan, Y.-J. Serological and viraemic status of human cytomegalovirus infection in patients with colorectal cancer is not correlated with viral replication and transcription in tumours. The Journal of general virology 2016, 97, 152-159.
22. Bugter, J. M.; Fenderico, N.; Maurice, M. M. Mutations and mechanisms of WNT pathway tumour suppressors in cancer. Nature reviews. Cancer 2021, 21, 5-21.

remained also in the long form…
Here is another example:

26. Chen, [...] Int. J. Cancer 2015, 137, 12-24.
27. Chen, [...] The Journal of general virology 2016, 97, 152-159.

yet, they are all in the journal_abbreviations_acs.csv I am using:

International Journal of Cancer;Int. J. Cancer
Journal of General Virology;J. Gen. Virol.
The Journal of general virology;J. Gen. Virol.

@Gigiux your changes to the built-in list on GitHub will be in the next version of JabRef.
