JabRef 5.16 - Window Resizes with Every Dialog Popup

I suspect this is some kind of Java issue and not a JabRef bug per se, but I thought I would post here in case anyone had useful suggestions.

Basically, every time I open a dialog window (e.g., to add a citation from the browser extension or to link a PDF), the JabRef window shrinks. It’s extremely annoying.

Here’s what I’m running on Kubuntu 24.04:

JabRef 5.16–2024-09-19–c5e81a9
Linux 6.8.0-47-generic amd64
Java 21.0.2
JavaFX 23+29

I suspect the culprit is the bug described in this post on the openjdk site: Loading...

The resizing issue happens when the JabRef window is maximised, so you can workaround it by keeping the window as large as possible without maximising it. You can use window rules to set the size just a few pixels smaller than your screen. It’s not ideal but does help.

Make sure to choose “Normal Window” for the rule, to avoid resizing the dialog windows.

I just saw your reply. Thank you! You have saved me several thousand heart beats per day. I’ve capped the maximum size, and it seems to work.

Marking this as a solution since the underlying solution isn’t specific to JabRef.
